About this tool
Most Business Model Canvas tools want you to sign up, join a workspace, invite your team, and eventually pay per seat. That is a reasonable business — but it is a lot of friction for something you often want to do once, in twenty minutes, to think a problem through.
This site is the opposite. Open it, fill in nine blocks, export a PDF, close the tab. No account, no email, no trial countdown, and no watermark on the export.
How it works
It is a static site with no backend at all. Everything runs in your browser, and your canvas is saved to your browser’s local storage — which means nobody, including us, can read what you write. The trade-off is honest: there is no cloud sync and no live multiplayer editing. What you get instead is privacy by construction, instant load, and a tool that still works if the internet drops mid-session.
Sharing works by compressing the whole canvas into a URL, so a link is a self-contained snapshot rather than a pointer to a server. For a durable copy, export JSON — it re-imports exactly.
What is deliberately included
- Guided prompts on every block, because a blank nine-box grid is intimidating and produces worse thinking than a set of specific questions.
- Twelve fully worked templates, including real companies, because the fastest way to learn the framework is to read a completed one.
- A PDF export laid out in the standard grid, because the canvas is most useful printed and argued over in a room.
- A layout that actually works on a phone — a single guided column in fill-in order, rather than a five-column grid squeezed to 380 pixels.
Credit where it is due
The Business Model Canvas is the work of Alexander Osterwalder and Yves Pigneur, published in Business Model Generation and licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0. This site is an independent implementation of that framework and is not affiliated with Strategyzer. If the canvas becomes central to how you work, buy the book — it is considerably deeper than any tool.
